YAC Kargil raises concerns over UPSC Portal closure, seeks relief for Ladakh aspirants

KARGIL: The Youth Action Committee (YAC), Kargil, has urged the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to intervene for the reopening of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) online application portal and extension of the deadline for applications to the recently advertised gazetted posts in the Union Territory, citing difficulties faced by candidates from remote areas in completing the recruitment process.

In a formal representation submitted to the Lieutenant Governor, the Committee said many eligible aspirants, particularly from Kargil and other remote parts of Ladakh, were unable to submit their applications because of infrastructural and technical constraints, including poor internet connectivity, limited access to document-scanning facilities, inadequate technical assistance and challenges associated with the online application process.

The Committee maintained that the recruitment exercise assumes added importance as vacancies for gazetted posts have been advertised after a gap of nearly eight years. It argued that candidates should not lose the opportunity to compete for public employment because of factors beyond their control.

Seeking immediate intervention, the YAC requested the Lieutenant Governor to take up the matter with the Union Public Service Commission and the concerned authorities, recommend the reopening of the online application portal for all notified gazetted posts in Ladakh and seek a reasonable extension of the application deadline to ensure wider participation.

The representation further called upon the administration to ensure that no eligible candidate is excluded from the recruitment process because of technical, infrastructural or procedural hurdles, asserting that equal access to employment opportunities should remain a priority.

Expressing confidence in the Union Territory Administration, the Committee said it hoped the government would adopt a responsive approach to protect the interests of young job aspirants while upholding fairness and equal opportunity in the recruitment process.

The YAC also thanked individuals and organisations that have supported the demand and appealed to public representatives, civil society organisations, the media and residents of Ladakh to extend support to candidates affected by the issues highlighted in the representation.
