‘Zhabstok Ladakh’: Youth interns introduced to functioning of Industries & Commerce Deptt

LEH: Youth interns assigned to the Department of Industries and Commerce under the LG Yuva Internship Programme ‘Zhabstok Ladakh’ were on Friday briefed on the department’s functioning, schemes and field-level activities during an orientation programme at the District Industries Centre (DIC), Leh.

The programme, held at the DIC Conference Hall, focused on giving the interns first-hand exposure to government functioning, public administration and implementation of government schemes, besides familiarising them with the responsibilities they will undertake during the internship.

Director Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh, Sonam Norbo, JKAS, who chaired the programme, urged the interns to actively engage with different sections and offices of the department to gain practical experience.

During the orientation, officials explained the structure and functions of the Industries and Commerce Department, including its various wings and field offices. The interns were also briefed on schemes and programmes relating to industrial development, entrepreneurship, MSMEs, handicrafts, handloom, geology and mining, as well as other economic activities in Ladakh.

The interns were apprised of their roles and responsibilities and encouraged to participate in departmental activities rather than limit their engagement to classroom-style learning. Officials said such exposure would help them understand how government programmes are processed and implemented at the administrative and field levels.

The programme was attended by General Manager, DIC Leh, Jigmet Raftan, JKAS; OSD to Director/Functional Manager, DIC Leh, Mohd Zakiria, and other officers and officials.

Launched by the UT Administration, ‘Zhabstok Ladakh’ seeks to provide young people with practical exposure to public administration and the working of government departments, while enabling them to understand the implementation of development programmes.

The orientation concluded with an emphasis on making the internship a meaningful learning experience and giving the participating youth an opportunity to gain practical insights into public administration and contribute to development initiatives in Ladakh.
