NYOMA: Twelve shopkeepers and restaurant operators were fined a total of ₹17,300 during an enforcement drive in Nyoma village, where officials also seized expired and unfit food products.

The drive, conducted under the supervision of SDM Nyoma Anjil Singh, was aimed at checking compliance with food safety, hygiene, pricing and other statutory requirements.

Officials from the Food Safety, Revenue and Information departments took part in the inspections along with the Tehsildar Nyoma, BMO Nyoma and Tehsildar Hanle.

The enforcement team inspected shops and restaurants for compliance with norms under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), including provisions concerning the sale of expired food products.

Officials also checked for overcharging beyond the maximum retail price, use of unverified or tampered commercial weighing equipment, mandatory display of price-rate charts and registration documents, and alleged black marketing or illegal diversion of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders.

Violations were detected during the inspections, resulting in fines against 12 violators. Expired and unfit food items found at the establishments were seized.

The officials also used the drive to advise shopkeepers and restaurant operators on food handling and storage, hygiene and cleanliness, and compliance with FSSAI requirements.

The enforcement team cautioned establishments against the use of single-use plastic and urged owners to follow proper waste segregation and disposal practices for wet, dry, sanitary and hazardous waste.

Restaurant owners and shopkeepers were also briefed on the administration’s No Tobacco initiative and asked to display “No Smoking” signs at suitable locations.

SDM Nyoma directed business owners to comply with food safety, sanitation, waste-management and other applicable statutory requirements. Those found repeating violations were warned of stricter action and penalties under the relevant rules.

The administration said such enforcement and awareness exercises would continue to promote food safety, cleanliness, responsible waste management and a healthy environment for residents and visitors in Nyoma.
