JAMMU/LEH: Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch (BTSM) has announced a week-long series of programmes across all districts of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to commemorate the 91st birthday of Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, with educational, cultural, spiritual and humanitarian events scheduled to begin ahead of the occasion on July 6.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the organisation in Jammu, chaired by Dr Vivek Sharma, National Co-Convener of the Intellectual Forum of Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch and President of the organisation for the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Sharma said BTSM units across both Union Territories would organise seminars, prayer meetings, exhibitions, tree plantation drives and interactive sessions with students and youth to promote the values of compassion, peace, non-violence and universal brotherhood associated with the teachings of the Dalai Lama.
He said the celebrations were intended not only to mark the spiritual leader’s birthday but also to create greater public awareness about his contribution to promoting universal human values, interfaith harmony, environmental responsibility, humanitarian principles and dialogue as a means of resolving conflicts.
Dr Sharma noted that the Dalai Lama, born on July 6, 1935, in Taktser, Tibet, has dedicated his life to preserving Tibetan culture and advocating peaceful coexistence. He said the Buddhist leader’s teachings continue to inspire people around the world to embrace compassion, tolerance and mutual respect.
The organisation appealed to people from different sections of society to participate in the programmes and reaffirm the ideals of peace, harmony and non-violence championed by the Dalai Lama throughout his life.
Among those present at the meeting were Dr Vikrant Singh, Dr Rajesh Sharma, Dr Judvir Singh, Dr Nitan Sharma, Dr Niharika Subash, Dr Pathania, Rajinder Sadotra, Surjeet Chowdhary, Vishal Sharma, Alok Mahajan and other members of Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch.
