LEH: The Leh district administration has cleared illegal encroachments from the public road stretch between Singey Namgyal Chowk and Airport Road, following a joint enforcement drive led by the Revenue Department in coordination with the Municipal Committee (MC) Leh and the Public Works Department (R&B).

The action followed a joint survey that identified unauthorised occupation of government land along the road corridor. Acting on the findings, the administration launched the anti-encroachment drive on July 31 under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Leh. The operation was supervised by the Tehsildar, Leh.

During the drive, encroachments obstructing the public road were removed in accordance with the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act.

The Office of the Tehsildar subsequently served six notices to individuals found to be in unauthorised occupation of government land forming part of the public road. The notices, issued under Section 133(1) of the Act, directed the occupants to remove the encroachments within the stipulated time, failing which eviction proceedings could be initiated.

According to the administration, the coordinated operation was carried out after due verification by the joint committee and concluded with the removal of all identified encroachments along the notified stretch.

The drive reflects the administration’s continued focus on protecting public land and keeping road infrastructure free from unauthorised occupation. Officials said such enforcement measures would continue wherever government land or public roads are found to be under illegal encroachment, with action being taken strictly in accordance with the law.
