LEH: The Cyber Unit of Leh Police on Tuesday conducted a cyber awareness programme in Phey village, educating residents about emerging online frauds, cybercrime trends and preventive measures, while urging them to promptly report digital fraud through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930.
Organised under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), the programme featured awareness sessions by Additional Superintendent of Police Rishabh Shukla (IPS), Inspector Shamim, In-charge of the Cyber Unit, and Sub-Inspector Dechen Yangdol.
The officers briefed villagers on the changing nature of cybercrime and explained the methods commonly employed by fraudsters, including phishing attacks, malicious links, fraudulent APK files and other online tactics used to gain unauthorised access to personal and financial information.
The participants were also cautioned about sextortion scams, particularly unsolicited video calls from unknown numbers, and were advised not to engage with or respond to such calls.
Emphasising the importance of cyber hygiene, the officers advised residents to keep their social media accounts private, enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), use strong and unique passwords, and avoid sharing confidential financial or personal information online. They also urged people not to click on suspicious links or download applications from unverified sources.
The team encouraged villagers to remain alert while using digital platforms and advised them to immediately report suspected cyber fraud by calling the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930, enabling timely intervention by law enforcement agencies.
The awareness programme witnessed active participation from villagers and concluded with an appeal to adopt safe digital practices and strengthen community awareness against cyber threats.
