NUBRA: Rotten chicken and fish being sold at a shop in Diskit Market were seized and disposed of following an inspection report, with Tehsildar Diskit Tashi Jorgais directing immediate removal of the food items and warning of legal action against any repeat violation.
Jorgais issued the order under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, directing the immediate disposal of food items found unfit for human consumption.
According to the order, Bilal Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed Bhat and a resident of Kulgam, Srinagar, was found selling and supplying rotten chicken and fish from his establishment, Bilal Chicken Shop, in Diskit.
The seized food items were declared unfit for human consumption and were considered a potential public health hazard.
The Tehsildar directed that all rotten chicken and fish stored or displayed for sale be removed and disposed of in accordance with the prescribed procedure. The order also prohibited the storage, display or sale of rotten, stale or otherwise unfit food items in the market.
The seized items were subsequently disposed of safely to ensure that they posed no risk to people or animals.
The disposal was carried out in the presence of TSO Diskit Chhering Tundup of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, a Patwari from the Revenue Department, police personnel and sanitary inspectors.
The Tehsildar warned that failure to comply with the order or recurrence of similar violations would invite appropriate action under the relevant provisions of law.
The action comes amid efforts by local authorities to enforce food safety and hygiene standards in markets and prevent the sale of food products that could pose risks to public health.
