Highlights district reorganisation, border infra and governance reforms

LEH: Senior BJP leader and former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, on Thursday extended birthday greetings to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, crediting his leadership and the Ministry of Home Affairs’ support for developmental and administrative changes in Ladakh.

In a statement, Gyalson conveyed his greetings on behalf of the people of Ladakh and wished Shah a long, healthy and fulfilling life. He said the region had witnessed progress in governance, infrastructure and public services under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister’s stewardship.

Gyalson highlighted the creation of eight districts—Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Sankoo, Kargil and Leh—as a measure aimed at improving administrative access for remote and border communities. He also referred to the proposed expansion of Hill Development Council frameworks across the districts, describing the changes as an effort to bring administration closer to people.

The former CEC said the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils had played a role in grassroots development, preservation of local heritage and the implementation of policies suited to the region’s social and economic needs.

He also cited strategic road links, the Zojila tunnel project, power infrastructure, telecommunications and health networks as areas of development affecting communities in the high-altitude border region. Digital governance, recruitment portals, carbon-neutral initiatives and the expansion of higher education infrastructure were among other areas he mentioned.

Gyalson said Shah’s engagement with Ladakh’s leadership and representatives reflected the Centre’s attention to the region’s strategic importance, cultural identity, fragile ecology and youth aspirations.

Concluding his message, Gyalson invoked the blessings of Lord Buddha and prayed for Shah’s good health and continued service to the country.
