DRASS: An awareness session on menstrual hygiene and health was organised at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Bhimbhat, on Friday, bringing together adolescent girls, educators and health communicators to promote scientific understanding of menstruation, dispel misconceptions and encourage healthy menstrual practices.

The programme was organised by the Charkha Development Communication Network in collaboration with Government Degree College Drass as part of efforts to improve menstrual health awareness and foster informed decision-making among adolescent girls.

The session was facilitated by Ananya, Programme Manager, and Nitin Kumar, Project Associate, from Charkha Development Communication Network, along with Swati Bhatt and Agyatmitra, Resource Person and Experiential Educator with Play for Peace.

Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Drass, Mohd Ibrahim, and Warden of KGBV Bhimbhat, Ms. Najuma, attended the programme as special guests. They commended the initiative and underscored the need to create supportive environments where adolescent girls can openly discuss menstrual health and access accurate, evidence-based information without hesitation.

Around 30 students participated in the interactive session, which covered the menstrual cycle, hygienic practices, nutrition during menstruation, common myths and misconceptions, and circumstances requiring medical consultation. The facilitators encouraged active participation through discussions and interactive activities, enabling students to ask questions and share their experiences in a supportive setting.

Organisers said the initiative was aimed at strengthening scientific awareness, building confidence among adolescent girls to discuss menstrual health without stigma and promoting practices that contribute to their overall health and well-being.

The Charkha Development Communication Network reiterated its commitment to working with educational institutions and community stakeholders to advance adolescent health, gender equity and informed choices through sustained awareness and capacity-building initiatives.
