JAMMU: Students and representatives of Kargil Boys Hostel (KBH), Jammu, have flagged 10 infrastructure, maintenance and administrative concerns and sought intervention from the competent authorities during an interaction with BJYM Kargil District President Adv. Mohd Hassanain Rocky.

Rocky visited the hostel following a request from its President Shamsuddin, executive members, former office-bearers, senior members and students. The students congratulated him on his election as BJYM District President and expressed hope that he would raise issues concerning their welfare and legitimate interests.

The representation sought action on frequent power interruptions and inadequate backup, pending washroom repairs, warden arrangements, poor approach road and drainage, dining hall maintenance, damaged windows and glass panes, electrical works, garbage disposal, drinking-water facilities and an unused generator.

Students said power interruptions were affecting night-time study and sought restoration or provision of an adequate inverter and backup system, including repair or replacement of the third-floor inverter battery where required.

They also claimed that a hostel washroom had remained under repair or unavailable for around two years or more and sought early completion of the work. Concerns were raised over the regular availability of the warden, with students requesting examination of the feasibility of a suitable male warden in accordance with rules.

The representation also sought repairs to the approach road, drainage and dining facilities, besides inspection of electrical wiring, damaged windows and sanitation arrangements.

Students said a generator outside the hostel had reportedly remained unused for around four years and sought its technical inspection and operationalisation if feasible.

Rocky assured the students that their concerns would be placed before the competent authorities for verification and necessary action as per rules, procedures and availability of resources.

He said legitimate student grievances would continue to be raised through appropriate institutional channels.

The concerns are based on representations submitted by students and remain subject to verification by the competent authorities.
