LEH: The Bharat Tibet Sahyog Manch (BTSM) on Tuesday honoured Prof. Rajeev Rattan on his appointment as the first Vice Chancellor of Sindhu Central University, Ladakh, while separately holding discussions with the leadership of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh, to strengthen academic cooperation in Buddhist studies and Himalayan cultural research.

In Jammu, a BTSM delegation led by Dr. Vivek Sharma, President of the organisation for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and National Co-Convenor of its Intellectual Forum, felicitated Prof. Rajeev Rattan by presenting him with a traditional Buddhist Khatak, symbolising peace, compassion and goodwill. Dr. Judvir Singh, State Vice President of BTSM, was also present.

Congratulating the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sharma expressed confidence that Sindhu Central University would evolve into a centre for higher education, research and innovation, while contributing to the preservation and promotion of the Himalayan region’s Buddhist and cultural heritage. He also assured the university of BTSM’s support in initiatives aimed at advancing India’s civilisational legacy.

As part of its organisational outreach in Leh, the BTSM delegation, including General Secretary Rajinder Sadotra and Ladakh UT In-charge Davinder Padha, met Prof. Rajesh Ranjan, Vice Chancellor of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies.

During the meeting, Dr. Sharma presented Prof. Ranjan with a copy of his book Buddhism in India and Abroad, which examines the historical development, philosophical traditions and global spread of Buddhism while highlighting India’s contribution to Buddhist scholarship.

The discussions focused on expanding collaboration between BTSM and CIBS through joint academic initiatives, research and activities aimed at preserving the Himalayan region’s intellectual and cultural heritage.

Prof. Rajesh Ranjan appreciated Dr. Sharma’s academic work and his efforts to promote Buddhist studies through research and publications, while both sides underscored the importance of strengthening scholarship and cultural engagement in the region.
