LEH: The Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar, celebrated the 80th Independence Day on Saturday with flag hoisting, addresses on the freedom struggle and national unity, and cultural performances by students.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajesh Ranjan hoisted the National Flag on the institute campus in the presence of the Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Dean of Students’ Welfare, Principal and teaching and non-teaching staff of the Senior Secondary School and University Wing.
The ceremony was followed by the National Anthem and patriotic songs. Assistant Professor Dr Dillip Kumar Pattanayak, Dean of Students’ Welfare Dr Lobsang Tsultrim Bhutia and Principal Konchok Nawang addressed the gathering.
Dr Pattanayak recalled the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle and spoke about the historical challenges faced by the country. He highlighted the contribution of several freedom fighters and movements, including the Azad Hind Fauj led by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
He also referred to the contributions of Queen Chennamma, Sardar Kunwar Singh, Rani Lakshmibai, Tantya Tope, Veer Surendra Sai and Mangal Pandey, among others.
Dean of Students’ Welfare Dr Lobsang Tsultrim Bhutia stressed the need to utilise the opportunities provided by independence and contribute to the country’s progress.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajesh Ranjan greeted the CIBS community and called upon members to contribute to nation building.
The programme, hosted by Assistant Professor Dr Stanzin Mingyur, concluded with cultural performances by students.
As part of the celebrations, CIBS conducted a Triranga Yatra on Friday and will hold another Triranga Yatra on Monday.
