KARGIL: The Kargil district administration has begun finalising arrangements for the smooth and peaceful observance of Chehlum (Arbaeen)-e-Hussaini, with Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, directing all departments to ensure seamless coordination and timely execution of essential services.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for advance planning to facilitate devotees and maintain public order during the annual religious observance. He instructed departments to complete all preparatory works well ahead of schedule and remain fully equipped to respond to any exigency.
The meeting reviewed preparedness for law and order, traffic management, sanitation, uninterrupted electricity and drinking water supply, healthcare services, emergency response and other civic arrangements. Senior officials from the district administration, police, health, public works, power, water supply, municipal and other line departments attended the meeting along with representatives of religious organisations.
Rakesh Kumar emphasised close inter-departmental coordination to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of public services and minimise inconvenience to devotees during the observance.
Representatives of JUIAK and IKMT raised issues relating to the timing of the Chehlum procession. Following discussions, it was decided that a separate meeting would be convened on July 27 or 28 with the heads of both organisations to finalise procession timings and address related issues through consensus.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all stakeholder departments to adhere strictly to their assigned responsibilities and maintain close coordination throughout the preparations.
The meeting concluded with participating departments reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that the Chehlum observance is conducted in a peaceful, safe and well-organised manner, supported by effective traffic regulation, robust emergency preparedness and uninterrupted civic services across Kargil district.
