NUBRA: Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal (IAS) on Monday directed Panchayat Secretaries to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, intensify village-level sanitation efforts and ensure prompt reporting of flood-related damages during a review meeting on the functioning of the Rural Development Department.

The meeting, attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra Tashi Jorgais, the Block Development Officer and Panchayat Secretaries from across the district, assessed the progress of rural development initiatives and the delivery of welfare programmes at the grassroots level.

Addressing the officials, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the role of Panchayat Secretaries as frontline administrators responsible for implementing government programmes and ensuring that benefits reach eligible beneficiaries without delay.

He directed them to regularly monitor the progress of flagship schemes, including the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Viksit Bharat Gram (VB-GRAM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), and to maintain close coordination with implementing agencies for their timely execution.

Beniwal also instructed Panchayat Secretaries to strengthen sanitation measures in their respective jurisdictions by ensuring compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.

He called for strict adherence to the notified schedule for Tsangda waste collection, directing field functionaries to regularly monitor its implementation to improve waste management across villages.

The Deputy Commissioner further emphasised the need to organise sustained awareness campaigns on drug abuse and intensify public outreach discouraging the use of single-use plastic, describing community participation as essential for maintaining a cleaner and healthier rural environment.

In view of the monsoon season, Beniwal instructed Panchayat Secretaries to remain vigilant, conduct prompt assessments of flood-related damage in their respective areas and report any losses without delay to facilitate timely administrative intervention.

He also directed all Panchayat Secretaries to remain available within their assigned areas, ensure effective field-level coordination and implement the decisions taken during the meeting through timely follow-up action.

The review meeting formed part of the district administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, improve service delivery and enhance the implementation of rural development programmes across Nubra district.
