NUBRA: Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal, IAS, on Thursday directed officials to undertake a comprehensive village-wise assessment of water supply gaps under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), with schools, Anganwadi centres and Health Sub-Centres to receive priority in efforts to ensure reliable water supply across the district.
Beniwal issued the directions while chairing a review meeting on the implementation of JJM and functioning of water supply services under the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) in Nubra.
The Executive Engineer, PHE/I&FC, briefed the meeting on the status of tap water supply under JJM in schools, medical centres and villages across the district. Nambardars, meanwhile, raised concerns over water supply, particularly the difficulties faced by residents during the winter months.
Taking note of the issues raised from the field, the Deputy Commissioner said the review was aimed at understanding grassroots-level challenges and developing a solution-oriented approach to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply.
He directed the constitution of a dedicated survey team to assess the existing problems and prepare a detailed village-wise report identifying gaps and proposing necessary interventions. He also placed schools, Anganwadi centres and Health Sub-Centres at the forefront of the exercise.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed Panchayat Secretaries to convene Gram Sabhas and constitute and functionalise Village Water and Sanitation Committees at the village level, with the participation of ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and other stakeholders.
The PHE department was directed to provide Field Testing Kits for regular monitoring of water quality, while Nambardars were asked to support efforts to strengthen community participation and ownership of local water supply systems.
SDM Nubra Mohd Sufder Bhat, JKAS, directed Block Development Officers and Tehsildars to ensure the timely constitution and functionalisation of the village-level committees and submission of reports.
The meeting was attended by officers and officials from concerned departments, Panchayat Secretaries and Nambardars.
The review places the focus on identifying village-specific gaps in water supply infrastructure and service delivery, while strengthening local participation in monitoring and management of drinking water services under JJM.
