NEW DELHI: Climate activist and education reform campaigner Sonam Wangchuk was discharged from hospital on Sunday after recovering from the effects of his prolonged hunger strike, bringing an end to his medical treatment following the campaign.
Before leaving for Ladakh, Wangchuk announced that he would visit Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, saying he wished to conclude the movement in the same spirit in which it had begun.
Recalling the launch of the campaign, Wangchuk said he had first paid homage at Rajghat before beginning his fast at Jantar Mantar after returning from Switzerland. He said it was fitting to return to Rajghat before heading back to Ladakh.
Expressing gratitude to people across the country, Wangchuk thanked supporters who had stood by the movement throughout his hunger strike.
He said the campaign had drawn strength from the solidarity extended by people from different parts of the country and expressed hope that they would continue to remain associated with future initiatives.
Concluding his message, Wangchuk greeted supporters with the words, “Jullay, Jai Hind.”
