LEH: Student innovators from across Leh district presented scientific models addressing sustainability, technology and public welfare as the District-Level Senior Science Exhibition 2026 concluded at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh.
Organised under the aegis of the Rashtriya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani (NCERT), the exhibition centred on the theme “STEM for Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat” and drew participation from government and private schools across the district.
The exhibition featured projects under seven thematic areas — Sustainable Agriculture, Waste Management and Alternatives to Plastics, Green Energy, Emerging Technologies, Recreational Mathematical Modelling, Health and Hygiene, and Water Conservation and Management. The exhibits were assessed on originality, scientific understanding, creativity, presentation and practical applicability.
Addressing the gathering, DIET Leh Principal Mirza Mehdi underscored the role of such platforms in nurturing scientific temper, innovation and critical thinking among students. Tsering Yangdol, Head of Department at DIET Leh, said the exhibition enabled young learners to exchange ideas and develop practical solutions to contemporary challenges.
A special expert session was delivered by Dr Subrat Sharma, Project Director, Rashtriya Raksha University, Ladakh UT Campus, who encouraged students to pursue research, innovation and technological advancement in service of national development.
The valedictory function was attended by Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, who felicitated the winners and commended participants for their creativity, dedication and scientific outlook. She said that scientific inquiry and innovative thinking among students are essential for building a knowledge-driven and self-reliant society.
Among the top performers, LM HSS Boys Leh secured first place in Sustainable Agriculture and Waste Management and Alternatives to Plastics. GHSS Saspol emerged winner in Green Energy, while GHSS Sakti claimed first position in Emerging Technologies, Health and Hygiene, and Water Conservation and Management. GHS Shara secured the top spot in Recreational Mathematical Modelling.
The exhibition concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to winners. Organisers also acknowledged the contribution of teachers, mentors, participating schools and the panel of judges, whose evaluations and feedback enriched the learning experience for students and encouraged greater engagement with scientific research and innovation.
