KARGIL: Director of Sheep Husbandry, UT Ladakh, Dr Iftikhar Hussain, reviewed veterinary facilities, livestock management arrangements and ongoing infrastructure works during the second day of his field visit to establishments in Kargil district on September 16.
Accompanied by Dr Tundup Namgyal, District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO), Leh, Hussain visited the Para Veterinary Centre at Skargyam, Highland Pasture at Rangdum, Para Veterinary Centre at Tangole and Kumbathang Farm to assess their functioning and operational requirements.
At Skargyam, the Director inspected available facilities and checked the stock of medicines. He interacted with the staff and reviewed issues affecting the centre’s functioning, with poor road connectivity emerging as a major concern.
At Rangdum, where livestock from Kumbathang Farm are currently being maintained, Dr Mohd Sadiq, DSHO Kargil, briefed the Director on livestock care, management and activities at the highland pasture.
Hussain reviewed livestock records and registers and assessed arrangements for the care and management of the animals. He also interacted with field staff and took stock of their requirements and operational concerns.
At Tangole, the Director inspected the Para Veterinary Centre where construction work is under way and reviewed the progress of the ongoing project.
He later visited Kumbathang Farm, inspecting its premises and available facilities and discussing its present operational status, requirements and areas requiring attention with the staff.
The field visit covered veterinary service delivery, livestock management, infrastructure development and the operational needs of departmental establishments, providing the Director an assessment of conditions and requirements at the field level.
