DRASS: A full-dress rehearsal for the 80th Independence Day was held at the International Horse Polo Stadium in Drass on Thursday, with police personnel, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets and school students participating in the parade.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Drass Vishal Atri took the ceremonial salute in the presence of senior civil, police and departmental officials.
The parade was led by Mohammad Iliyas as First Parade Commander, with Mohammad Isaq serving as Second Parade Commander. Contingents from the Police, ex-servicemen, NCC, GDC Drass and various schools participated in the march-past.
Addressing the gathering, Atri recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and said Independence Day was an occasion to reflect on the values of freedom, unity and responsible citizenship.
He called upon students and young people to contribute positively to society through education, discipline and dedication.
The SDM also appreciated the participation of students, parade contingents and government departments in the rehearsal and stressed the role of such national occasions in strengthening unity and respect for the National Flag.
Students from various schools presented cultural and patriotic performances during the programme, adding a cultural dimension to the rehearsal.
Officials from the Medical Department, Youth Services and Sports and PHE, besides teachers and faculty members, attended.
The rehearsal marked the completion of preparations for the August 15 celebrations at Drass.
