LEH: Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, observed Hindi Diwas on Monday with poetry recitation and on-the-spot writing competitions, providing students and faculty members a platform to showcase their literary abilities and reflect on the role of Hindi in India’s cultural and linguistic landscape.

The celebrations featured two competitions for students — an on-the-spot writing contest on the theme of patriotism and a poetry recitation competition. Faculty members from different academic departments also participated in a special poetry recitation session.

In the on-the-spot writing competition, Rinchen Dolma secured first place, followed by Padma Angmo in second place and Sonam Chodon in third place.

In the poetry recitation competition, Stanzin Yangdol won first place, while Stanzin Deachen and Lakpa Sherpa secured second and third positions respectively.

The event was inaugurated by Dr Tsering Chorol, Convener and Head of the Hindi Department, who spoke about the historical development, cultural roots and contemporary relevance of Hindi Diwas.

A special poetry recitation session brought together faculty members from different disciplines, including Assistant Professor Taira Bano from the English Department, Dr Sonam Wangmo from Environmental Studies, Dr Shipra Devi from the Hindi Department, Dr Qazi Sheeraz Arif from Mass Communication and Journalism, and Dr Diskit Wangmo from Anthropology.

The participation of faculty members from diverse academic disciplines added an interdisciplinary dimension to the programme and encouraged wider engagement with literary activities on the campus.

The programme began with a welcome address for faculty members, students and other participants before moving into the poetry session and student competitions.

The winners and participants were later presented certificates by college faculty members during a certificate distribution ceremony.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Tsering Chorol, followed by a commemorative group photograph.
