LEH: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, successfully inaugurated the prestigious “Eliezer Joldan Memorial Lecture Series” today at the college campus. The lecture series commemorates the towering legacy of Late Eliezer Joldan, Ladakh’s pioneer educationist.
The inaugural session was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Tadzin Joldan, distinguished academician, daughter of Late Eliezer Joldan, and the founding Principal of EJM College. She was accompanied by her husband Mr. Vachoo, sister, Madam Martha Joldan, and special guest Miss Anna Bemrose from Australia.
The proceedings commenced at 3:00 PM with a warm traditional reception led by Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal of EJM College Leh, alongside Prof. Tsewang Mutup, Dean, College Development Council (DCDC), and Prof. Samina Iqbal, Principal, Government Degree College Khaltse and SPD, PM-USHA. The dignitaries were presented with traditional ceremonial Khataks, followed by the auspicious lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
Delivering the formal welcome address, Assistant Professor Raziya Parveen, Senior Professor and Convener of IQAC, highlighted the objective of the memorial lecture series as a catalyst to connect contemporary students with the ethical, educational, and cultural bedrock established by the college’s namesake.
Taking the podium for the inaugural lecture, Chief Guest Prof. Tadzin Joldan delivered an emotional and deeply inspiring address recounting the life, vision, and selfless pedagogy of her father. She shared nostalgic insights into the historical formation and early challenges of setting up Degree College in Leh .
Evoking warmth and applause, Prof. Tadzin reflected on deep personal milestones:
“My dear friend, Miss Anna Bemrose from Australia, first visited Leh in 1978 and met my father and me back then; she has returned here today after 48 years. Throughout my career across several higher education institutions in Srinagar—including the Women’s College—and serving as the founding Principal of this institution, the values instilled by my father remained my compass. My husband, Mr. Vachoo, former General Manager of J&K Tourism, shares this lifelong affinity with Ladakh’s progress.”
Following the lecture, a felicitation ceremony was held where mementos and tokens of appreciation were conferred upon the guests. The session then transitioned into an interactive open-floor discussion where students and faculty engaged with Prof. Joldan on questions surrounding higher education leadership, moral grounding, and institutional heritage.
The program concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks proposed by Assistant Professor Dr Sonam Wangmo, who conveyed gratitude to the dignitaries, organizers, and attendees.
