LEH: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, in collaboration with the Charkha Development Communication Network, New Delhi, on Thursday launched a seven-day theatre workshop aimed at equipping students with practical skills in storytelling, character development and stage performance.
Titled “Kahaani, Kirdaar aur Stage”, the workshop seeks to strengthen students’ creative expression, communication abilities and leadership skills through theatre-based learning and interactive performances.
The inaugural session was attended by Senior Professor Zahoor Hussain as the chief guest, while the Charkha delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Chetna Verma.
The workshop is being conducted by Rajesh Nirmal, an independent writer, theatre director and recipient of several national and international honours. Addressing participants, Nirmal described theatre as a dynamic medium that connects people through stories and emotions. He encouraged students to observe everyday life, draw inspiration from real-world experiences and use theatre as a medium for creative expression and constructive social engagement.
Organisers said the workshop has been designed to help students develop leadership qualities alongside artistic and communication skills through structured theatre activities.
Speaking during the inaugural session, Ananya Vasishtha, Programme Manager at Charkha Development Communication Network, highlighted the organisation’s continuing collaboration with EJM College since 2023. She noted that previous initiatives had covered writing, photography, stop-motion animation, puppetry, scriptwriting, graphic narratives and documentary filmmaking.
Faculty members and students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism attended the opening session.
Over the next seven days, participants will undergo practical training in storytelling, script development, character creation, voice modulation, body language, improvisation and stage performance. The workshop will also include collaborative theatre exercises intended to build confidence, creativity and teamwork before concluding with a stage presentation by the participants.
