LEH: Students of Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, were urged to stay away from drugs and make informed life choices at a substance abuse awareness programme organised by the college’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on Friday.
Sub-Inspector Lobzang Rinchen, in-charge of Police Post Choglamsar, attended as the special guest and keynote speaker. He outlined the challenges posed by substance abuse and its effects on individuals, families and society.
Rinchen also explained the legal provisions relating to narcotic substances, urging students to remain vigilant and contribute to efforts to build a drug-free society.
Dr Mohd Taqi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, welcomed the participants and moderated the session. He stressed the importance of protecting young people’s health and future from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The programme also featured two interactive activities, Empty Chair and Tree of Hope, conducted by Ummul Baneen, a student of the Department of Zoology. The activities encouraged students and faculty members to reflect on substance abuse, share their perspectives and engage with the issue beyond conventional awareness speeches. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Tsering Norphel, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, who acknowledged the contributions of the guest speaker, college administration, faculty members and students.
