KARGIL: The School of Horticulture Science and Technology (SHS&T), Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, organised a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) titled “Enterprising Ladakh”, with an expert session by Dr Zahoor Ahmad Paray focusing on entrepreneurship, local resource utilisation, employment generation and economic self-reliance.

The programme aimed to encourage undergraduate students of agriculture and horticulture to explore entrepreneurship as a viable career option, particularly in view of Ladakh’s distinctive socio-economic and environmental conditions.

The expert session delivered by Dr Paray was a major highlight of the programme. He underscored the role of entrepreneurship in promoting regional development, generating employment and fostering innovation, while stressing the need to build an entrepreneurial outlook among students.

Dr Paray encouraged the participants to identify business opportunities rooted in locally available resources and explore emerging avenues for enterprise development. He also urged them to develop innovative solutions to challenges faced by local communities, highlighting the potential of entrepreneurship to address regional needs while supporting economic self-reliance.

The programme sought to broaden students’ understanding of entrepreneurship in agriculture and horticulture and encourage them to look beyond conventional employment pathways. By drawing attention to opportunities linked to local resources and market needs, the initiative aimed to familiarise students with the scope for developing ventures suited to Ladakh’s conditions.

The five-day programme reflects SHS&T Kargil Campus’s efforts to promote entrepreneurial thinking among students and encourage enterprise creation as a possible avenue for employment and regional economic development.
