KHARU: A three-day training programme for enumerators and supervisors for the Population Enumeration phase of Census 2027 began at the Conference Hall of the SDM Office here on Thursday, with the administration laying emphasis on accurate, systematic and error-free collection of population data.
The training, being held from August 20 to 22, is part of preparations for the second phase of Census 2027 and is intended to familiarise field personnel with the procedures, questions and practical requirements they will encounter during the enumeration exercise.
SDM Kharu and Charge Officer, Tehsil Kharu, Rigzin Yangdol, JKAS, along with Naib Tehsildar Gya, attended the opening session and interacted with the trainees. Yangdol stressed the need for diligence and accuracy at every stage of data collection and urged the enumerators and supervisors to discharge their duties with sincerity and due care.
The emphasis on data accuracy assumes particular importance in Ladakh, where the conduct of census operations involves scattered settlements, remote habitations and difficult terrain. During a recent review of Census 2027 preparations in Leh district, officials stressed the need for meticulous planning, coordinated field-level execution, comprehensive household coverage and thorough verification of entries.
Field Trainer Stanzin Angmo is conducting the training sessions, covering practical and field-level aspects of Population Enumeration. Participants are also being sensitised to digital literacy-related questions and other components that will form part of the field exercise.
The programme is designed to equip the field teams with the knowledge and skills required to conduct the enumeration in accordance with prescribed procedures and minimise errors during data collection.
The training in Kharu is part of wider preparations for the Population Enumeration phase across Ladakh. Officials involved in the Census exercise have been directed to maintain data quality through field inspections and verification checks, while ensuring that households in remote and difficult-to-reach areas are not left out.
Technology is also expected to play a greater role in the exercise, with officials previously noting that digital data collection would improve efficiency and the quality of information gathered during Census operations.
With the three-day programme continuing until August 22, the trained enumerators and supervisors will form the frontline field teams responsible for translating the Census guidelines into an accurate population count in Kharu Tehsil.
