LEH: Four National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the 1 Ladakh Battalion NCC, Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, have successfully completed the 24-day Basic Mountaineering Course conducted by the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS), Pahalgam, at Sonamarg.

The cadets—LCPL Sonam Lamo, LCPL Desal Dolkar, LCPL Jigmet Deskong and LCPL Sonam Chosphel—completed Course Serial No. 157 after undergoing intensive training in rock climbing, rappelling, glacier travel, ice craft, campcraft, rope management, high-altitude survival and leadership.

The contingent also secured honours during the course. LCPL Desal Dolkar won the Second Prize in the Endurance Event, while LCPL Sonam Chosphel received the Best Technique Award, adding to the achievements of the college and the 1 Ladakh Battalion NCC.

Congratulating the cadets, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal of Government EJM College, commended their dedication, discipline and commitment throughout the training programme.

Lt. Dr. Ujwala Koche, Associate NCC Officer and Director of Physical Education and Sports, along with Dr. Tsering Spalzom, Associate NCC Officer and Director of Physical Education and Sports, also congratulated the cadets. They said the accomplishment reflected the NCC’s emphasis on leadership, discipline, teamwork and adventure, while encouraging more students to participate in adventure-based training programmes and represent the institution at higher levels.
