KARGIL: Dr Mohd Raza, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology at Government Degree College (GDC), Kargil, has received the Best Oral Presentation Award at a three-day national conference on biodiversity, conservation and biotechnology of microbes and plants held at the University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus.
The National Conference on Biodiversity, Conservation and Biotechnology of Microbes and Plants (NCBCBMP-2026) was organised by the Department of Botany, University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, from September 5 to 7.
The conference was funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and brought together researchers and academics to deliberate on areas related to biodiversity, conservation and biotechnology.
Dr Raza presented his research paper titled “matK as a Potential DNA Barcode and Proximate Analysis of Rheum tibeticum, an Endangered Medicinal Plant from Ladakh in the Western Himalayas.”
His presentation was made under the conference theme covering Drug Discovery and Conservation, one of the areas addressed during the event.
The conference featured three broad sub-themes: Metabolic Engineering; Secondary Metabolites and Drug Discovery; and Sustainable Conservation.
In recognition of his research presentation, Dr Raza was awarded the Best Oral Presentation Certificate under the Drug Discovery and Conservation theme.
Principal, GDC Kargil, Dr Amjad Ali, congratulated Dr Raza on the award and appreciated his contribution to research and academic activities.
He also wished Dr Raza continued success in his future academic and research work.
The achievement adds to research efforts at GDC Kargil in areas concerning biotechnology, biodiversity conservation and the sustainable utilisation of Ladakh’s biological resources.
