KARGIL: Drug abuse, mental health and youth well-being came under focus at a programme organised by the Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College, Sankoo Campus, on International Youth Day.
Held under the guidance of Dr Saleem Ahmad, Nodal Officer, Sankoo Campus, the programme brought students face-to-face with counsellors from the District De-Addiction Centre and Health Department.
Ashiq Hussain and Najma Anjum, counsellors from the District De-Addiction Centre, along with Kaneez Fatima, Counsellor from the Health Department, interacted with students and discussed the growing challenge of substance abuse and its impact on individuals, families and society.
The resource persons also briefed students about counselling, rehabilitation and other support services available through the District De-Addiction Centre and Rehabilitation Centre for people struggling with substance dependence.
The programme was organised in connection with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and sought to encourage young people to recognise the risks associated with drug use and seek professional assistance without delay.
A short Breakfree India activity was also conducted as part of the Red Ribbon Club’s awareness campaign.

The speakers urged students to remain alert to the pressures that can lead to substance abuse and to support peers who may require help. They also emphasised the importance of making informed and responsible choices for a healthy future.
The programme concluded with an appeal to students to stay away from drugs, encourage those in need to seek professional help and contribute towards creating a healthier environment for young people.
