NUBRA: Government Degree College Nubra observed International Youth Day 2026 with a panel discussion that brought students, faculty and staff together to examine how local action can address wider social and environmental challenges.
The programme was held around the themes “Different Contexts: Common Aspirations” and “Local Solutions for Global Problems”.
Participants discussed issues ranging from climate change and environmental degradation to waste management and sustainable development, with speakers stressing that many larger challenges can be addressed through practical initiatives at the community level.
Students and faculty shared views on local, national and global issues affecting young people, including the aspirations and challenges confronting the younger generation.
The discussion also focused on the role of education, awareness, innovation and responsible citizenship in enabling young people to contribute to social development.
Participants explored how small, locally rooted initiatives could contribute to broader efforts on environmental protection and sustainable development.
The panel discussion also provided students with a platform to put forward their own ideas and perspectives rather than limiting the observance to formal speeches.
Principal Rigzin Sandup, in his concluding message, encouraged students to “think globally while acting locally” and urged them to play an active role in building a more sustainable and hopeful future.
Certificates of participation were distributed among students who took part in the programme.
The observance sought to connect International Youth Day with challenges directly visible in the local environment, while encouraging students to view their own communities as spaces where practical solutions can begin.
