ZANSKAR: The Department of Botany, Government Degree College (GDC), Zanskar, in collaboration with the HVT Foundation, conducted a two-day training programme on mushroom cultivation on August 17 and 18, focusing on the technical aspects of cultivation and its potential as a livelihood and entrepreneurship opportunity.

The programme, held under the guidance and supervision of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, was organised at Government Model Degree College, Zanskar, with participation from students, faculty members and other participants.

The training commenced on August 17 at 11:30 am in the college seminar hall. Dr. Sabir Hussain, Assistant Professor of Botany, moderated the programme, while Dr. Abdul Hadi, Assistant Professor of Botany, coordinated the sessions.

Major Anshu Saxena, Community Head of the HVT Foundation, and Vijay, a mushroom cultivation expert associated with the foundation, joined the programme online. Lobzang Rinchen, Principal of SECPAD School, was also welcomed and felicitated during the programme.

Major Anshu Saxena outlined the objectives of the training and spoke about mushroom cultivation as a potential avenue for livelihood generation and entrepreneurship. This was followed by a virtual technical session conducted by Vijay, who demonstrated the complete mushroom cultivation process and explained its different stages while providing technical guidance to the participants.

The programme also brought together students of SECPAD Model School, faculty members and participants, with the organisers placing emphasis on practical learning and technical exposure.

The two-day programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Abdul Hadi, who acknowledged the support and participation of the college principal, HVT Foundation and its team of experts, Lobzang Rinchen, SECPAD Model School students, faculty members and other participants.

The training reflects an effort by the Department of Botany and HVT Foundation to introduce students and participants to mushroom cultivation as a possible livelihood and entrepreneurship activity in Zanskar.
