ZANSKAR: Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organised an awareness programme on the ban on single-use plastics, urging students and staff to adopt sustainable practices while reinforcing efforts to create a cleaner and environmentally responsible campus.

Held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, the programme witnessed the participation of faculty members and students, who were sensitised to the environmental impact of plastic pollution and the importance of reducing dependence on single-use plastic products.

In support of the initiative, the Block Development Officer (BDO), Rural Development Department, Zanskar, provided six dustbins for installation across the college campus to strengthen waste management infrastructure and encourage proper disposal of waste. The contribution is expected to support the institution’s efforts to maintain a cleaner, greener and plastic-free academic environment.

During the programme, participants were encouraged to embrace environmentally sustainable practices and contribute to reducing plastic waste through responsible consumption and disposal. The awareness campaign focused on fostering environmental consciousness among students, recognising educational institutions as vital platforms for promoting long-term behavioural change.

The college administration expressed gratitude to the Block Development Officer and the Rural Development Department, Zanskar, for extending support to the initiative, stating that collaborative efforts between educational institutions and government agencies are essential to advancing environmental sustainability and effective waste management.
