LEH: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh has issued a public advisory urging residents, commuters and tourists to remain vigilant after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rainfall across the region, warning of possible flash floods, landslides and disruption to essential services.
The advisory, issued by the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) Department, cautioned that the prevailing weather conditions could trigger flash floods, landslides and damage to critical infrastructure, particularly in vulnerable areas.
People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and stay away from nallahs, riverbanks, flood-prone areas and landslide-prone slopes. The administration has also urged the public not to attempt crossing swollen streams, damaged roads or unstable bridges.
Tourists and visitors have been advised to postpone travel to vulnerable areas until weather conditions improve. Residents have been asked to closely follow advisories issued by the District Administration, Police and other government departments and keep emergency supplies, including drinking water, torches, medicines, mobile charging facilities and important documents, readily available.
The advisory also urged people to evacuate immediately if directed by local authorities and ensure that children, elderly persons and other vulnerable family members remain in safe locations. Any incidents of flooding, landslides, road blockages or other emergencies should be reported without delay to the concerned control room or local administration.
The administration has directed all concerned departments, field formations and emergency response teams to remain on high alert and maintain coordinated preparedness for early warning dissemination, evacuation support, relief operations and protection of critical infrastructure.
For emergency assistance, the public can contact the Emergency Helpline (112), SEOC Leh ERSS (1070) or DEOC Kargil (8082743220 / 01985-259052).
