KARGIL: More than 1,500 patients benefited from free medical camps organised by the Hasan Khan Charitable Foundation (HKCF) in Kargil and Lalung, with specialised ENT, ophthalmology, audiology and gynaecological services extended to people from across Kargil district and remote areas.

The two-day camp at Kargil Public School examined 1,268 patients, including 535 who received ENT consultation and rehabilitation services from specialist Dr Ihsan Ali and a team of audiologists and speech and language pathologists from Srinagar. Six digital hearing aids, valued at around Rs 2 lakh, were distributed free, while five others were provided at a 50 per cent subsidy.

The ophthalmology team, led by Dr Manzoor Al-Mahdi, examined 733 patients and detected cases of refractive errors, cataract, pterygium, allergic conjunctivitis, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Patients requiring advanced cataract surgery were referred to ASG Eye Hospital, Srinagar, under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

Earlier, on August 13, the Foundation had conducted a medical camp at Lalung village, where more than 232 patients from the Silmo-Batalik region received ENT and gynaecological consultations. Pure Tone Audiometry tests were also conducted, particularly for elderly patients with hearing-related complaints.

The initiative was organised in memory of late Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, former Member of Parliament and former Deputy Inspector General, by his son Feroz Ahmad Khan, family members, friends and well-wishers to carry forward his legacy of public service.

Councillor Shargole Constituency, LAHDC Kargil, Mohd Jawad, visited the Kargil camp and interacted with doctors, volunteers and beneficiaries. He appreciated the initiative and urged the Foundation to organise a similar camp in Shargole for people with limited access to specialised healthcare.

The Foundation said it would continue providing healthcare services in remote and underserved areas of Ladakh.
