Ladakh Police, Ex-Servicemen, Students participate with Parade, Cultural performances

LEH: A full-dress rehearsal for the 80th Independence Day celebrations was held at Polo Ground, Leh, on Thursday, featuring a broad participation of security personnel, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets and students from schools across Ladakh.

Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk hoisted the National Flag and presided over the parade.

Marching contingents included male and female personnel of the Ladakh Police, the Ladakh Police Commando Unit, ex-servicemen, NCC boys and girls and students from Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, GN National School and Mahabodhi Residential Senior Secondary School.

Students from government schools in Leh and Kargil districts also participated.

The Ladakh Police Women Pipe Band added a musical element to the ceremony, while the Ladakh Police K9 Unit conducted a demonstration.

The programme also featured cultural performances by students from schools across Leh and Kargil. Traditional dance performances by the Cultural Academy, Kargil, added a regional cultural component to the proceedings.

The rehearsal provided a final run-through of the parade, ceremonial sequence and cultural presentations ahead of the August 15 celebrations.

The participation of contingents from both districts also reflected the wider regional character of the UT-level Independence Day programme.

The rehearsal concluded with the National Song and National Anthem, marking the completion of the final preparations at Leh’s main venue.
