KARGIL: The Indian Air Force’s Kanyakumari-to-Kargil cycling expedition, undertaken to commemorate the 94th Anniversary of the IAF and honour the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War, culminated at the Kargil War Memorial on Thursday.
The expedition was flagged in at the memorial by Air Vice Marshal Anand Sondhi, AVSM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding, HQ AOC J&K and Ladakh, marking the completion of the final leg of the nationwide cycling journey undertaken in tribute to the heroes of the Kargil War.
The expedition was organised to honour the courage, valour and sacrifice of the personnel who fought during the Kargil conflict, while carrying their legacy of patriotism, service and devotion to duty across the country.
The expedition was conducted in three segments. The first, from Thiruvananthapuram to Hyderabad, was completed on February 18, 2026, followed by the second segment from Hyderabad to New Delhi, which concluded on March 8.
Together, the first two segments covered approximately 3,440 km.
The final segment, from the National War Memorial, New Delhi, to the Kargil War Memorial, covered approximately 1,145 km and commenced on September 22. A team of 15 cyclists, supported by an integral support team, undertook the concluding journey.
After halting at BTC Drass, the cyclists proceeded towards the Kargil War Memorial, where they paid solemn tribute to the fallen personnel of Operation Vijay and Operation Safed Sagar.
The final segment was led by Group Captain A K Singh and coordinated by Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal and Wing Commander Suresh Razdan.
Beyond the physical challenge of cycling across the country, the expedition was also aimed at connecting with young people along the route. The team interacted with youth at various locations, encouraging them to consider careers in the Armed Forces and providing them an insight into the ethos, values, discipline, camaraderie and spirit of adventure associated with the Indian Air Force.
