Independence Day: Full-Dress Rehearsal held in Zanskar

ZANSKAR: Zanskar held a full-dress rehearsal for the 80th Independence Day on Thursday, with police personnel, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets and school students participating in a parade and cultural programme.

Tehsildar Zanskar Mohd Jan attended the event as chief guest and took the ceremonial salute. SHO Zanskar was also present.

The parade was commanded by Stanzin Yangzom and featured contingents from the Police, ex-servicemen, NCC and educational institutions. The participants displayed discipline and coordination during the march-past.

Addressing the gathering, Mohd Jan recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and said Independence Day provided an opportunity to reflect on the values associated with the country’s freedom.

He called upon students and young people to uphold patriotism, unity, discipline and responsible citizenship and contribute to society through education and dedicated service.

Students from various schools presented cultural performances reflecting patriotism, national pride and the region’s cultural heritage.

Representatives of the Medical Department, Youth Services and Sports, PHE Zanskar and other departments, along with teachers and officials, attended the rehearsal.

Jan appreciated the participation of students, officials and various departments in the preparations.

The rehearsal was conducted as the final run-through ahead of the August 15 celebrations and reflected the coordinated preparations being made across Zanskar for the Independence Day programme.
