LEH: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Monday flagged off the 412-kilometre Cycle Expedition “JAZBA-2026” from the premises of its 16 Battalion in Leh, launching a multi-purpose outreach initiative aimed at promoting youth empowerment, physical fitness, adventure sports and social awareness across Ladakh.

The expedition, organised by the 16 Battalion of the ITBP, will travel from Leh to Dungti, covering a distance of 412 kilometres through challenging terrain. The programme seeks to encourage young people to adopt healthier lifestyles while fostering endurance, discipline and community engagement.

The rally was flagged off from Mashung Hongrey Hall of the 16 Battalion with the slogan, “Shaurya Ko Salaam, Samaj Ko Paigam,” underscoring themes of social responsibility and sustainable transportation.

Officials said the expedition has been designed as more than a sporting event, serving as a platform to honour the sacrifices of martyrs, strengthen national integration and promote environmental consciousness among the public, particularly the youth.

Participants drawn from diverse backgrounds joined the expedition, reflecting a collective commitment to teamwork, perseverance and the spirit of adventure. Organisers described the rally as an effort to channel youthful energy towards constructive pursuits while encouraging greater participation in fitness-oriented activities.

According to ITBP spokesperson, the initiative also incorporates elements of adventure and endurance training intended to enhance riding proficiency and operational preparedness among participants. The expedition is expected to pass through several locations en route to Dungti, carrying messages related to health awareness, environmental stewardship and civic responsibility.

The force believes the programme will facilitate greater interaction with local communities while creating awareness about the role and responsibilities of the ITBP in frontier regions. Through direct public engagement, the expedition seeks to reinforce bonds between security forces and residents living in remote areas of Ladakh.

Officials maintained that JAZBA-2026 reflects the ITBP’s continuing efforts to combine fitness, public outreach and nation-building objectives through community-centric initiatives. As the cyclists advance towards Dungti, the expedition is expected to amplify messages of resilience, environmental responsibility and active youth participation across the Union Territory.
