KARGIL: Security agencies on Sunday carried out a high-intensity mock drill at the Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC) in Kargil, simulating a terror-related emergency to assess the preparedness of law enforcement and emergency services at one of the district’s busiest tourist locations during the peak travel season.
The exercise, led by District Police Kargil in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Security Wing, Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and the Health Department, tested the ability of multiple agencies to mount a coordinated response under simulated crisis conditions.
The drill replicated a real-time emergency, with security personnel establishing outer and inner security cordons, evacuating tourists and civilians to safe locations, launching tactical intervention, evacuating casualties, activating emergency medical response, deploying firefighting units and carrying out area sanitisation.
Officials said the exercise was designed to evaluate operational readiness, response time and inter-agency coordination while identifying areas requiring further refinement in emergency response protocols.
The coordinated operation demonstrated integrated communication and synchronised deployment among participating agencies, reflecting the district’s emphasis on strengthening security preparedness at public places witnessing increased tourist footfall during the summer season.
Police said similar joint exercises will continue to be conducted periodically to enhance institutional preparedness and ensure a prompt, coordinated response to any security contingency, while reinforcing public confidence in the safety arrangements across Kargil.
