LEH: The Agriculture Department, Leh Zone, on Thursday organised a Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme along with a demonstration on natural farming practices at Phey village under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural methods.
The awareness-cum-demonstration programme focused on promoting soil health management, reducing dependence on chemical inputs and enhancing long-term agricultural sustainability through natural farming techniques.
Addressing the participants, Agriculture Extension Officer Leh, Ms. Tsering Dolkar, briefed farmers about various agricultural schemes being implemented by the department to support farming communities and improve agricultural productivity in the region.
She also conducted practical demonstrations on the preparation and application of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit, widely used natural farming formulations that help improve soil fertility, strengthen crop health and support environmentally sustainable cultivation practices.
Officials said the programme was designed to provide farmers with hands-on exposure to low-cost and sustainable agricultural solutions while encouraging greater adoption of natural farming methods suited to the agro-climatic conditions of Ladakh.
The participating farmers actively engaged with the resource persons, sought clarifications on various aspects of natural farming and discussed ways to integrate these practices into their existing cultivation systems.
A total of 28 farmers attended the programme and expressed interest in adopting natural farming techniques to improve soil quality and reduce cultivation costs.
The initiative forms part of the Agriculture Department’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, strengthen farmer awareness and support environmentally responsible farming practices across the Leh district.
