LEH: The Health and Medical Education Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh has assigned In-charge Chief Medical Officer-cum-Medical Superintendent (CMO-cum-MS) responsibilities for five newly designated District Hospitals, a move aimed at strengthening district-level healthcare administration and streamlining the management of medical institutions across the region.
The appointments, which take effect immediately, have been made following the approval of the competent authority after the existing healthcare institutions were designated as District Hospitals for administrative and functional purposes.
According to the order, Dr. Norboo Angchuk has been entrusted with the charge of District Hospital Nubra, while Dr. Shamin Ahmad has been appointed as In-charge CMO-cum-Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Sham.
Similarly, Dr. Padma Angmo has been assigned District Hospital Changthang, Dr. Asif Hussain has been posted to District Hospital Drass, and Dr. Rabiya Banoo has been given charge of District Hospital Zanskar.
The order further directs the Director, Health Services, UT Ladakh, to make the necessary administrative arrangements and allocate responsibilities to ensure the smooth functioning of the newly designated district hospitals.
Issued under the orders of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, the decision is intended to strengthen institutional leadership at the district level by providing dedicated administrative and medical oversight for the newly designated hospitals.
The appointments are expected to improve governance, coordination of healthcare services and operational efficiency, particularly in the Union Territory’s remote and geographically challenging regions, while supporting the delivery of accessible and effective medical care.
