LEH: The District Youth Services and Sports Office, Leh, has announced the schedule for selection trials for the Ladakh Sports Festival 2026, with trials to be conducted across Leh and the three districts carved out of the erstwhile Leh district—Nubra, Sham and Changthang.
The selection trials are being organised in connection with the celebration of National Sports Day 2026 and will identify players to represent their respective districts in the Ladakh Sports Festival, proposed to be held from August 29 to September 29, 2026.
As per the circular issued by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Leh, the trials are open to sportspersons in the 18 to 35 years age group, with eligible participants required to have been born between 1991 and 2008.
The selection process covers seven sporting disciplines—Futsal, Athletics, Sand Volleyball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Recurve Archery and Cricket. Except for cricket, which is listed for men, the notified disciplines provide opportunities for both men and women.
The trials for most disciplines will be conducted on August 24 and 25. The designated venues include the Open Stadium at Spituk in Leh, Government Higher Secondary School, Diskit in Nubra, Government Higher Secondary School, Khaltse in Sham, and Government Higher Secondary School, Nyoma in Changthang. Cricket trials in Leh will be held at NDS Stadium, while the other listed districts will use their respective cricket grounds.
The athletics trials will cover 200 metres, 1,500 metres and 10,000 metres, while the archery selection will be conducted in the recurve category, with a prescribed distance of 50 metres for men and 40 metres for women.
The notification thus marks the beginning of the district-level sporting selection process in the Leh-side districts, ahead of the larger Ladakh Sports Festival. The festival is expected to provide a structured platform for young sportspersons to compete at the district level, identify promising talent and strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure and participation across Ladakh.
The District Youth Services and Sports Office has called upon eligible and interested players to participate in the trials and report at the designated venues punctually with the required age-verification document.
