NEW DELHI: Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth on Wednesday inaugurated a 14-storey automated multi-level car parking facility at the Defence Offices Complex on Africa Avenue, New Delhi, describing it as part of the Central Government’s effort to upgrade urban infrastructure with modern, space-efficient facilities.
Addressing the gathering, Seth said the government’s focus is to develop urban infrastructure capable of providing world-class facilities while addressing the growing challenges of metropolitan cities, particularly the shortage of land.
Calling the project an effective solution to parking constraints, he said the use of advanced technology would improve workplace efficiency and accelerate the shift from conventional infrastructure to modern, technology-driven systems.
The Minister commended the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for completing the project within the stipulated timeframe. He also praised the quality and design of other CPWD projects, including MP Flats, Kartavya Bhawans and Executive Enclave.
The newly inaugurated facility has been developed at a cost of Rs 45 crore and uses fully automatic robotic (dolly) parking technology, enabling nearly 60 per cent greater space utilisation compared to conventional parking systems.
According to the Ministry, the parking structure is equipped with CCTV surveillance, an integrated fire safety system, and automated vehicle handling that minimises human intervention. Once a vehicle enters the lift lobby, the robotic system manages parking operations, eliminating vehicle emissions within the facility.
The government said the project reflects its continued emphasis on adopting smart infrastructure solutions to meet the growing demands of urban public facilities.
