KARGIL: Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Kargil, observed the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kargil, organising an awareness session, a quiz competition and a mock drill to promote disaster preparedness and safety awareness among youth.

The programme focused on familiarising participants with disaster risk reduction measures, emergency response procedures and the importance of preparedness in minimising disaster-related risks. It also highlighted the role of young people in promoting a culture of safety and strengthening community-level disaster resilience.

During the awareness session, participants were sensitised to preventive measures, responsible behaviour during emergencies and the need for coordinated community participation in disaster management. The session emphasised that awareness and timely preparedness are essential to responding effectively to emergencies and reducing potential risks.

A quiz competition was organised to test and enhance participants’ knowledge of disaster management, emergency response and safety measures. The programme also featured a mock drill on the institute campus, allowing participants to familiarise themselves with emergency procedures and understand the importance of prompt and coordinated action during a disaster.

The activities were aimed at translating disaster awareness into practical preparedness by combining information-based learning with a simulated emergency exercise.

The programme underscored the role of youth in building disaster-resilient communities through awareness, preparedness and active participation in disaster management initiatives.

Through such activities, MY Bharat Kargil seeks to encourage young people to participate in community awareness efforts and contribute towards creating a safer and more resilient society.
