LEH: Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Harpal Singh, VSM, has been conferred the prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India in recognition of his distinguished service of the highest order, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) announced on Monday.

Congratulating the DGBR, the BRO said the honour acknowledges Lt Gen Harpal Singh’s exceptional leadership in steering the organisation’s efforts to strengthen strategic infrastructure across some of the country’s most challenging and remote regions.

According to the BRO, the organisation has witnessed a significant acceleration in strategic connectivity projects under Lt Gen Harpal Singh’s leadership, alongside the introduction of transformative institutional reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and operational effectiveness.

The BRO further highlighted that disaster response capabilities have been substantially strengthened during his tenure, enabling the organisation to respond more effectively to natural calamities and emergencies in border areas. It also noted that resilient infrastructure has been developed across India’s frontier regions, reinforcing connectivity and supporting both national security and socio-economic development.

The Ati Vishisht Seva Medal is among India’s highest peacetime military honours and is awarded for distinguished service of an exceptional order. Lt Gen Harpal Singh’s recognition underscores the vital role played by the BRO in building strategic road networks and critical infrastructure that support the armed forces and improve connectivity in border areas.
