KARGIL: A portion of the protection wall near the Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC) Depot in Kargil has collapsed, raising serious concerns over the quality of construction and the execution of the project.
According to local sources, the foundation work of the protection wall was initially undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), while the remaining construction was later completed by the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department. The collapse has now triggered public concern, with residents questioning the quality of work and seeking clarity on accountability.
The incident has also sparked debate over whether proper engineering standards, construction materials, and quality control measures were followed during different phases of the project. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident.
Local residents have urged the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough technical inquiry to determine the exact cause of the collapse and fix responsibility if any negligence is found. They have also demanded immediate restoration of the damaged wall to prevent further risk to commuters and nearby infrastructure.
The public has called upon the administration, BRO, and the R&B Department to jointly assess the site, ensure transparency in the investigation, and take corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
