NUBRA: Trainers from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar, on Tuesday began a five-day capacity-building programme on dyeing and embroidery for MSME artisans at the Handloom Department, Diskit, with Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal, IAS, distributing training kits among the participants.
The training is being conducted under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) initiative of the Department of Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh, with the focus on strengthening the skills of local artisans and supporting livelihood and self-employment opportunities.
The programme has been organised by the Handloom Department under the supervision of Sachin Bali, JKAS, Assistant Director, Handloom Department, Leh. NIFT Srinagar trainers are conducting the technical sessions on dyeing and embroidery during the five-day programme.
Beniwal attended the programme and interacted with the participating artisans. He distributed training kits to the participants and encouraged them to make effective use of the training and pursue self-employment opportunities.
The Deputy Commissioner also stressed the need for proper allotment of Common Facility Centres (CFCs) to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and effective utilisation of the machinery available to them.
He underlined the role of skill development and proper use of existing facilities in strengthening the local handloom and handicraft ecosystem and creating opportunities for artisans to generate sustainable livelihoods.
The training is intended to provide participants with practical skills in dyeing and embroidery while improving their capacity to develop and diversify products for the market.
The programme also seeks to support local economic activity by equipping MSME artisans with skills that can be used to expand their existing work and explore new self-employment opportunities.
