LEH: Students of the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SAS&T), University of Ladakh, Leh, organised a colourful and memorable programme on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, celebrated across the country every year on 5th September to honor educators and mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India and renowned philosopher, educationist and statesman.
The programme featured a vibrant cultural presentation by the students, including traditional dances and melodious songs, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration. The event was graced by Prof. M. S. Kanwar, Associate Director/Dean Agriculture, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Deldan Namgail, Prof. Jigmat Yangchan, Assistant Professors and non-teaching staff of SAS&T were also present on the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, the students assigned different traditional cultural themes to the teachers, who enthusiastically participated by dressing in various traditional attires. The teachers also took part in a ramp walk, which added a unique and entertaining element to the programme.
As a part of the celebration, Prof. Jigmat Yangchan and Dr. Thanlass Nurbu were nominated as the Best Dressed Male and Female Teachers, respectively, in recognition of their participation and traditional attire.
The students expressed their respect and gratitude towards their teachers by presenting them with traditional khataks and small gifts as tokens of love and appreciation. A cake-cutting ceremony was also organised, with the teachers joining together to celebrate the special occasion.
Later, the trainees of the Basic Agriculture Training (BAT) programme organised a separate Teachers’ Day celebration. The trainees arranged a cake-cutting ceremony and expressed their gratitude by presenting traditional khataks and small gifts to the teachers.
The celebrations reflected the strong bond of respect, affection and mutual appreciation between teachers and students. The programme concluded on a cheerful note, leaving everyone with memorable moments and reinforcing the importance of teachers in shaping the lives and future of students.
