ZANSKAR: Police Station Zanskar organised a familiarisation visit for students from different schools in the region, providing them with firsthand exposure to police functioning, crime prevention mechanisms, citizen services and the role of technology in modern policing.

The visit was aimed at helping students understand the responsibilities of police personnel in maintaining law and order, preventing crime, responding to emergencies and ensuring public safety, while also promoting greater trust and communication between the police and younger members of the community.

During the visit, the students were briefed on the day-to-day functioning of Police Station Zanskar and the range of duties performed by its personnel. They were introduced to investigation procedures, emergency response mechanisms and various ways in which police assist citizens.

The students were also familiarised with services and facilities available at the police station, including the Women Help Desk. Police personnel explained its role in providing a safe and supportive platform for women and addressing their grievances.

The functioning of the Cyber Help Desk was explained separately, with emphasis on cyber safety, prevention of online fraud and the importance of promptly reporting cyber-related incidents.

As part of the awareness programme, the students were briefed about the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the importance of understanding and respecting the law. They were also introduced to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), including its role in technology-enabled crime prevention, investigation and police record management.

The students were further informed about the Citizen Portal and various citizen-oriented police services accessible through digital platforms. They were encouraged to use these services responsibly and approach the police whenever assistance is required.

The interactive session allowed the students to engage directly with police personnel, raise questions and gain an understanding of the responsibilities and challenges associated with policing. The students showed keen interest in the functioning of different services and units at the station.

The initiative was also aimed at strengthening police-community relations by encouraging open communication, trust and mutual understanding among the younger generation. Police personnel emphasised the importance of awareness of rights and responsibilities in enabling young citizens to contribute to a safer and more responsible society.
