SANKOO: A four-year-long impasse over the installation of a 220 KV transmission tower in Sankoo has been resolved following the intervention of the district administration, clearing the way for the immediate resumption of work on the power infrastructure project.
Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sankoo, Waseem Ramzan Dar (JKAS), conducted an on-site inspection of the proposed Tower No. 220A installation site, where construction had remained stalled due to unresolved issues involving the affected landowner and alignment-related concerns.
The inspection brought together representatives of the executing agencies and the affected landowner. Through discussions and consultations with all stakeholders, the SDM addressed the concerns raised by the landowner and facilitated a mutually acceptable resolution, bringing an end to a dispute that had delayed the project for nearly four years.
During the visit, officials also examined the alignment of a road project passing adjacent to the proposed tower location. The inspection resulted in the resolution of the conflict between the road alignment and the transmission tower site, removing a second hurdle that had affected the progress of both infrastructure works.
Following the settlement, the SDM directed the executing agencies to resume the pending construction without delay, stating that all major impediments had been addressed.
The intervention is expected to accelerate the implementation of the transmission project while ensuring that the adjoining road works also proceed without further obstruction.
Officials said the resolution reflects the district administration’s approach of addressing public grievances through consultation and consensus while facilitating the timely execution of critical infrastructure projects without compromising the interests of affected stakeholders.
