Around 100 students participate in sessions at GHSS Bhimbhat and KGBV Bhimbet under PM-USHA Gender Inclusive Equity Initiative.
DRASS: Around 100 students participated in self-defence and drug-awareness programmes organised at Government Higher Secondary School Bhimbhat and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Bhimbet as part of a three-day workshop being conducted by Government Degree College Drass under the PM-USHA Gender Inclusive Equity Initiative.
The sessions focused on practical self-defence techniques, situational awareness and personal safety, with internationally acclaimed resource persons Ritesh Tiwari and Mana Mandelkar demonstrating techniques and encouraging students to build confidence, remain alert and respond effectively in challenging situations.
The morning session was held at GHSS Bhimbhat, followed by an evening session at KGBV Bhimbet. The second day of the workshop included practical applications of self-defence techniques among girl students.
Alongside the training, a Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan awareness programme was conducted in collaboration with the Tribal Research Institute, University of Ladakh. Students were sensitised about the harmful effects of substance abuse, the importance of informed and healthy choices, and the role of collective responsibility in creating a drug-free society.
The principals and wardens of the two institutions appreciated the initiative by Government Degree College Drass and commended the college for organising programmes aimed at equipping students, particularly young women, with skills and awareness related to personal safety and well-being.
The workshop forms part of the college’s three-day self-defence programme under the PM-USHA initiative, with the sessions at Bhimbhat and Bhimbet combining personal safety training with awareness on substance abuse.
